TUTORIALS

Welcome to a new page on my website. For around fifteen years I've been using 3D Studio, from the old days of the blue screen version, right up to present day 3DS Max V9. I'm not an animator, I'm primarily an environment artist so most of the tutorials will be geared towards that. Some of them are more complicated than others and I'll try and grade them with the following EASY - MEDIUM - EXPERT. I will also inform you of other elements of Max that you need to learn in order to grasp them fully.

These tutorials are free to download, but they must not be used for monetary gain. If you wish to use my material commercially, please contact me beforehand.

If there's something specific you want to learn, then please contact me, and if I can, I'll create a tutorial for it.

I'm using Max version 9 right now, which I purchased from the good folk at Freehand. However, you can download a 30 day trial version from the Autodesk Website if you can't afford the price tag.

Remember, all feedback is welcome.

TUTORIAL_01: Texture Blend: Easy (800k download)

Have you ever wondered how the artists blend one texture with another in game environments? Well, this little tutorial will show you a very simple technique of doing just that using Max. It only uses two textures, so if you need to blend more than that, try 'TUTORIAL_03' below, which is a little more advanced than this one.

TUTORIAL_02: Displace Terrain: Very Easy (300k download)

The first tutorial seems to have been a success judging by the response and the downloads. I've had many requests to make the creation of terrain, using a displacement modifier, a little clearer. So here it is. It's very simple and it does make the previous and next tutorials a little clearer.

TUTORIAL_03: Texture Blend 2: Medium (500k download)

This is not the same as Tutorial 1. This tutorial will allow you to create more than 2 layers of blended textures. I have done 4 layers here, but more are possible as you'll see. If only two layers are what you need, then Tutorial 1 is fine and easier, but for more than two layers, you need something like this.
